Consent:

• Purpose of treatment: To treat vaginal thrush (candidiasis) - a yeast infection that may cause itching, burning, and abnormal discharge.

• Expected outcomes: This medicine is usually effective in clearing an episode of vaginal thrush. Some women may experience recurrent infections and may need further treatment. If you experience frequent infections, we recommend seeing an in-person doctor for a full assessment and appropriate testing.

• Possible side effects:

Fluconazole:

• Common:
  • Headache
  • Nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea
  • Skin rash
• Rare but Serious (seek medical attention immediately)
  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Liver problems (yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine, severe abdominal pain)
  • Irregular heartbeat or palpitations

• Precautions:

• • Do not drink alcohol during and for 48 hours after treatment. Do not use the treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have liver disease or heart rhythm problems.
  • Fluconazole can interact with some drugs, including warfarin, certain antibiotics, and anti-epileptics.
  • Seek urgent care if you experience persistent abdominal pain, fever, or abnormal bleeding.

  • Vaginal antifungal creams or pessaries
