Hair Loss – Male
π΄ Hair loss in males, commonly referred to as male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia,Β is a prevalent condition affecting a significant portion of the male population. It can begin as early as the late teens to early twenties and generally progresses with age.
Combination treatment of Finasteride tablets and Minoxidil topical solution has been proven effective in promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss in men.
- Finasteride tablets: Finasteride (also marketed under the name Propecia) is a medication approved to treat hair loss in men (androgenetic alopecia). Finasteride works by reducing dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone linked to hair loss. By reducing DHT levels, finasteride can slow hair loss and promote hair growth in some men. If taken consistently, results can be noticed in 3 to 6 months.
- Important Points:
- For use in males only.
- In some males, potential side effects may include decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, breast tenderness or enlargement, depression.
- Finasteride has been proven to be effective but if stopped, hair loss may resume within 6 to 12 months.
- Important Points:
- Minoxidil topical solution: A topical solution that is applied to the scalp to stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss. It works by stimulating hair follicles and increasing blood flow to the scalp. Results typically start to become visible after 3 to 6 months of use. Potential side effects may include dry skin, scalp irritation and itching.
