Orlistat (Xenical) may be a great option for you. Orlistat is a weight-loss medication that blocks the absorption of some of the fat you eat. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet to help people lose weight.

Liraglutide (Saxenda/Victoza) may be best suited for you. Liraglutide is a daily injection used to assist with weight loss in adults who are overweight or obese. It works by mimicking a natural hormone (GLP-1) that helps reduce appetite, slow digestion, and promote a feeling of fullness. This leads to reduced calorie intake and gradual weight loss over time. Semaglutide is the active ingredient in both Wegovy® and Ozempic®. Both treatments are developed by the same company. The difference is only in the registration: Ozempic® is registered in South Africa for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Wegovy® is registered in South Africa for weight management.
• Tirzepatide is a once-weekly injection used to support weight loss in adults who are overweight or obese. It works by mimicking two natural hormones (GLP-1 and GIP) that help reduce appetite, slow digestion, and promote a feeling of fullness. This leads to reduced calorie intake and gradual weight loss over time.

Lifestyle changes are important for the comprehensive management of obesity, as it is often linked to lifestyle factors e.g. poor diet or inactivity. It is strongly advised to first attempt lifestyle changes before deciding on treatment.
Regular aerobic and strength exercises are strongly advised. Aim for at least 30 minutes of brisk walking, 5 times per week (150 minutes per week).
