Wegovy® (semaglutide) is the first weekly injectable treatment officially registered for weight management in South Africa. While Ozempic® contains the same active ingredient, it is registered for type 2 diabetes. Wegovy® is specifically approved to help with safe and effective weight loss when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Wegovy is developed by the same company as Ozempic.
How to take Wegovy:
- Before you use the pen for the first time, please ask your pharmacist for instructions, follow the detailed instructions in the package leaflet and use the downloadable Wegovy app for guidance.
 - Wegovy is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Do not inject it into a vessel or muscle.
 - Wegovy (semaglutide) should be injected subcutaneously (just under the skin) in areas where you can pinch the skin. Recommended sites are:
- Abdomen: at least 5 cm from the belly button.
 - Thigh: upper outer thigh.
 - Upper arm: back of the arm (usually needs assistance).

 - Always use a new needle for each injection, and rotate injection sites to avoid skin irritation.
 - Do not adjust doses without your doctor’s instructions.
